What is Lathe Slitting?

What is Lathe Slitting?

Lathe slitting, or baloney slitting, is the process of slicing a master tape log into narrower sizes. A machine spins the log — often over five feet wide — while a circular blade lowers down to slice roll by roll. Master logs can provide dozens of custom rolls, and slitting machines can create different widths from the same log.

At TapeCase, our slitting machines can cut 63” logs down to 0.25” rolls within a ±1/32” tolerance or better. We support 1”, 1.5”, and 3” tape core sizes. For narrower tapes, tighter tolerances, or custom tape lengths, our Tape Rewinding & Slitting Services offer you more options.
